Version 0.1.0 – Millennium

Version 0.1.0 Millennium

The first playable version of SOVEREIGN: take over one of 195 nations on 1 January 2000 and lead it to 2075 – with a living economy, world trade along real sea lanes, domestic politics, crisis diplomacy, army, navy and air force. Single player right in the browser, multiplayer campaigns with an account.

Highlights

  • New · Campaign

    Campaign 2000–2075

Starting scenario 1 January 2000 with economic and population data from cited sources, and the alliances and governments of the time. Historical events accompany the years up to 2026, after that the world becomes speculative.

  • New · Map

    World map and regional maps

Detailed world map with provinces, terrain, canals and straits, German and English place names and curved country labels. 14 maps in total – the whole world and regions – each with the 2000 scenario.

  • New · Trade

    World trade along real routes

Goods travel along sea lanes, canals and land routes. Chokepoints such as Hormuz or Suez, blockades and transport costs affect prices; the trade map mode shows the trade arteries.

  • New · Diplomacy

    Crises instead of push-button wars

Conflicts escalate step by step along an escalation ladder – from demand to ultimatum to war. Alliances, peace and occupation follow clear rules, and the AI plays by the same ones.

  • New · Navy & air force

    Army, navy and air force

Battles with supply and occupation, fleets with aircraft carriers, commerce raiding and convoys, sea transport and amphibious landings, plus air forces. The starting forces of selected nations are based on documented inventories from 2000.

  • New · Multiplayer

    Multiplayer campaigns

Server browser, lobby, matchmaking, parties with friends and chat. Campaigns keep running on the server; the AI stands in for absent players. Fog of war and adjustable rules.

Economy with markets, state budget, construction and production, plus business cycles: credit cycles, banking and debt crises, interest spreads and price shocks. Heavily indebted poor countries can receive debt relief.

Domestic politics with personalities, parties and governments. Real people are shown neutrally and without portraits.

  • Research

Research with more than 200 technologies in 12 branches, a research queue and a research tree laid out as a timeline with eras. Getting ahead of history costs more.

Guided tutorial in 19 steps with contextual tips, and a title screen with a live world simulation.

  • Audio

A dynamically generated soundscape right in the browser.

  • Account

One account for website and game: sign in with an e-mail link, a passkey or via Steam, Discord, Google and other providers, two-factor protection, friends list and data export.

  • Website

Website with a live world map, Codex (systems, all technologies and nations from the game data), community voting on the roadmap, an ideas board, playtest sign-up and newsletter. New: this changelog.

Technical

  • Performance

The simulation runs in its own background thread; the map only redraws when something changes, which spares battery and fans.

Known issues

  • Simulation

The economy is calibrated against real data for 2000–2015; later decades are still being fine-tuned.

  • Military

Documented starting forces exist for selected nations so far; more will follow.
